Afghan Academy is a non-profit, non-political organization, officially registered as a 501(c)(3), and established in 1992. Guided by its core values of neutrality and service, the Academy is committed to supporting the Afghan diaspora in the United States through educational, cultural, and civic initiatives. As a non-political entity, the organization neither endorses nor opposes any political candidate or party.
However, Afghan Academy actively promotes civic engagement and informed decision-making among Afghan-American communities. It regularly hosts open forums, community dialogues, and political debates, providing a platform for diverse perspectives. These events are designed to educate registered voters on key issues, ensuring they can participate in the democratic process with clarity and confidence.
According to a survey conducted by the Open Society Foundations, there are an estimated 360,000 to 400,000 Afghans living in the United States. Regional populations include approximately 127,000 in California, 60,000 in Virginia, 48,000 in New York, and 25,000 in Texas. As a growing and vibrant minority, the Afghan-American community plays an important role in the social and civic fabric of the country — and Afghan Academy remains dedicated to empowering this voice through knowledge, inclusion, and active participation.
